How To Make A Small Living Space Bigger
It's great to be living in the center of it all - commercial establishments, transport hub, business centers, entertainment and shopping places and a lot more! Talk about urban living…
Even with limited floor areas, the possibilities for design, comfort, and function are endless. Also, you don't have to be constrained by your decorating budget, because even with simple items and basic tips, you can create a statement in your living space, no matter what the size. Here are some hints on how you can make the most out of your rooms, and make them even roomier:
With the size of the place a major consideration, it's important to plan the decorating work. You can't just buy any furnishing you fancy. It might not fit, you know. Even if it does, you want the object to look comfortable and fitting to its space and not forced into captivity. Your home should have a "spacious" feel and look to it even if it's a just a hole in the box.
So how can you make your home look roomier? Obviously, you can't do a Superman and stretch the floors or push back the walls. Come on! You have your neighbors to think of. Be good! So create the illusion of a bigger home with decorating techniques like using light colors to widen up the appearance of space and area rugs to segregate space without crowding it with furniture. Make the tiny windows look longer with long curtains that hang just a few inches off the ground. This is a double duty tip as it also makes the ceiling look higher for a more airy look in the room.
Experiment with colors. Just as the furniture positions affect one's point of view, so do the colors in a room. White is often used as a wall color to promote spaciousness or openness in an area. You can test out different hues in lighter tones for your furnishings and home accents. Other suggestions are eggshell, stucco, ecru, and even yellows and pale blues.
Think storage. A room can look tight and cramped when there is a lot of clutter hanging around. Fortunately, many furniture pieces can now perform the dual task of function and storage. You can get beds with built-in drawers underneath, as well as ottomans and coffee tables that double as storage chests for books, magazines, CDs, and more. When your place gets organized, the space becomes larger, too.
Coordinate the colors and decorations. You don't want your apartment to look like a warehouse or a garage sale. A small home can still look elegant with the right decors.
You can be as creative as you want. Don't limit your decorating maven with the size of your apartment. If you have tons of photographs that you can't display on tables because you have none due to lack of space, then hang them on the walls as your own take on wall decors. Hang chic mirrors to make the space look bigger. Go for standing lamps or wall lamps. If you can't bring in a big couch, have enough seats for when entertaining guests with colorful ottomans and beanbags. The ideas are endless!
